    Today’s Classrooms – Separate but Equal?

    On May 17, 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Brown vs. Board of Education (B.O.E.) stated that “Where a State has undertaken to provide an opportunity for an education in its public schools; such an opportunity is a right which must be made available to all on equal terms.” Yet, after over a half a century later, one would have hoped our classrooms would reflect the country’s increasingly diverse composition. Far from it.

    Today’s Classroom – Separate but Equal?

    On May 17, 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Brown vs. Board of Education (B.O.E.) stated that “Where a State has undertaken to provide an opportunity for an education in its public schools; such an opportunity is a right which must be made available to all on equal terms.”

    Can we say this decision promising an education in public school would be made available to all on equal terms has been honored? If it seems too many that we are moving in the opposite direction of an educational system that guarantees equity, what did Brown vs. Board accomplish?
